Every child has the potential to stand in the winner's
circle, on and off the playing field. Raising Athletic Stars will help
you get your child started on their own journey to a rewarding athletic
career. Whether it is for a full college scholarship or just a healthy
and ambitious lifestyle, sports can lead your child to a brilliant
future.
Raising Athletic Stars is a must-read for parents of
student-athletes ages 5 - 18. My book is about the many benefits of
getting your children involved in sports, from fighting obesity to
keeping your children off drugs and grounded in academic achievement.
I address the full range of athletic commitment from the child who
plays sports in gym class to the student athletes that are looking
towards NCAA scholarships or may have Olympic dreams. As the single
father of two sons I looked to sports as a way to teach my children
about the realities of life. My sons, Timmy and Tommy did not have
natural athletic ability when they were young. Together, as a family
we worked on skills and attitude and overcoming adversity on and off
the playing field. Both of my sons went on to full Division I College
Scholarships in Football. Even more than their athletic achievements,
I am most proud of their academic achievements, their sportsmanship
and their integrity. I want to share with all parents my belief that
character development, integrity, and ethics should be a priority in raising athletic stars.
We have interviewed dozens of student athletes, parents, coaches and sports professionals
who provide insight and expertise regarding the value of sports in a child's
upbringing. Raising Athletic Stars shows the importance of parents and
coaches working together to help a student athlete achieve their goals, from
making a team through NCAA scholarship recruitment.
I wrote my book to help parents deal with the harsh realities of our culture
by using sports as a positive way to fight negative influences. Drugs, violence
and a win-at- any-cost mentality have put parents on the defensive. Raising
Athletic Stars deals with these issues including the steroid use, violence
and cheating that has crept into professional and amateur sports. We explore
the causes and the remedies.
It doesn't matter if your child is ever picked for a team or plays in a championship
game or gets a NCAA scholarship. The value of sports is in the effort and
the lessons learned along the way. Winning, losing, competing, teamwork, dealing
with coaches, rules and the consequences of breaking rules are what real life
is made of. At age 8 a child can learn what it means to be taken off the playing
field when they break a rule or learn to try just that much harder to help win
a game or learn the value of winning a coach's respect.
I've written Raising Athletic Stars for you. I want to share with you
all that I learned on my journey raising two wonderful sons. I encourage you
to use sports to help your child realize their full potential.
